Alumnae Hockey

On Saturday 3 September RGS was delighted to host again the annual RGS Worcester alumnae hockey tournament, played at the Worcester International Hockey Centre.

Ten alumnae joined us to play current students, helping form a part of pre-season training before the new academic year brings a series of matches for our seniors.

The alumnae were thrilled to be playing together again and the match was superb with a final score of 6-0 to the alumnae.

This was a real opportunity to inspire our seniors, showing what can be achieved with the foundations of RGS Hockey education. Amongst both current students and the alumnae playing there are some very impressive achievements including current Year Thirteen Alice Atkinson who has spent her summer travelling the world playing for England U18, whilst in this game she played against her older sister Lottie Atkinson, along with Sophie Thompson, Izzy Nott and Grace Francis who are all still playing National league club Hockey. It was also great to hear how the other alumnae players are involved in university pre-season training and club Hockey since departing RGS.

The alumnae bid farewell with a promise to return to School soon, many planning to attend the New OE Drinks in December.

On the reunion, RGS Head of Hockey Leanne Bennett says “For me this fixture is a real highlight of the season to demonstrate the real why behind what we do. The 2022 departing year Thirteens were my first reception class at RGS Springfield and having coached many of them through prep at RGS The Grange as well, it has been a real privilege to welcome pupils new to Hockey in Year Seven and watch their journey to become talented players as well as kind and inspiring young adults. I hope our alumnae cherish their RGS Hockey experience and it has fulfilled them with the skills and tools for their future endeavours both on and off the pitch’’
